School friends

We picked friends in school
like stray dogs find each other;
no logic,
no calculation.
Just two humans
recognizing something
worthwhile.

Everything after that
has been just networking
with judgements
and politeness.

That freedom of choosing
without reason
is perhaps the last authentic thing
we ever did.

  1. Dear Barnadhya,

What a thought-provoking poem you have composed here regarding the freedom of choosing friends without reason via your examining and reminiscing about school friends!

I would like to celebrate your spirit and to resonate with your endeavour to enlighten us about school friends with the following statement by Robert Louis Stevenson:

We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world, and the best we can find in our travels is an honest friend.

Wishing you a very productive 2026 on the road to doing or enjoying whatever that satisfies yourself the most, whether aesthetically, physically, intellectually or spiritually!

    Yours sincerely,
