Aesop’s dilemma

I grew up reading Aesop’s fables,
the stories that ended
with a moral for the reader
to learn
ethics, and wisdom,
and humility.

Now I imagine Aesop living today
as a storyteller here
struggling to find an audience
or readers,
working recklessly to make ends meet,
failing at his career miserably,
for there are no takers
of ethics and morals.

Aesop would have probably
left storytelling to become
a plumber,
a cobbler, or
a shopkeeper.
